The scheme and site was allocated for an extra care scheme, due to the high demand for accommodation suitable for local elderly residents. The reported demand indicates how many units are required for the scheme and the Government’s design standards for extra care schemes are very clear in what facilities are required. These include a Restaurant, Lounges, Laundry, Shop, Hairdressing, Treatment Room, Assisted Bathrooms and a number of one and two-bedroomed selfcontained flats.
The central section of the proposed building is four-storeys high, with both ends reduced to 3-storey. The roof design has been detailed in such a way that it aids in visually reducing the overall mass and height. A private garden is also proposed and is located at the southern end of the site. It is intended that traditional materials be used so that the new building respects and reflects the existing area of North Ormesby
