Primrose Village is a scheme aimed at giving children the best start in life, and will provide a wealth of preschool support to dozens of families in Jarrow. Situated at the heart of a lively and vibrant community, and working in equal partnership with Sure Start and Primrose Community Association, Valley View Primary forms part of the newly opened Primrose Village Learning Campus. Recently designated as a children's centre, Primrose Village provides state of the art, integrated, front-line services and extended school provision for all members of the community. South Tyneside Council awarded this scheme with a ‘Commendation of New Building’ in their Good Design Awards.
Based at Primrose Community Centre in Lambton Terrace, Jarrow, the umbrella scheme incorporates Primrose Sure Start, Primrose CA and Valley View School. A multi-agency programme, Sure Start South Tyneside supports families to ensure children thrive and reach their full potential by the time they reach school. The Primrose Village project has seen the birth of a community coalition between the centre, Sure Start and nearby Valley View School. The community facility includes health visitor and baby clinics, a soft play area, a youth club, squash courts and function rooms. The project was financed by South Tyneside Council, Sure Start, the European Regional Development Fund, Neighbourhood Nurseries and the Department for Work and Pensions Employment Grant.
