LARCHFIELD is a land-based residential community for adults with learning difficulties. It is well integrated into the local community and offers training in meaningful work for adults with special needs. The alteration and extension to their existing farm required particular attention to environmentally friendly resources and design features based on the following general principles:
- It should not contribute any greenhouse gas (CO²) to the atmosphere.
- It should not dispose of harmful pollutants or waste materials to earth, air or water.
- It should not use scarce non-renewable resources
